According to NBC, the exact number of voters has not been revealed, but 99% of participants voted in favor of the strike. It could be the first at Disneyland in 40 years.
Unions have been negotiating with management at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, since April 24. The dispute affects more than 675 cleaners, ride operators, bakers and vendors.
On June 10, employees announced they had filed a lawsuit against the company alleging unfair labor practices. The case is being investigated by the National Labor Relations Board.
Disneyland Resort spokeswoman Jessica Goode said the strike resolution is “not unusual” in the bargaining process and noted that park management still plans to meet with unions on July 22 and 23.
The unions accuse park management of illegally disciplining employees, intimidating and spying on members who wear special badges featuring a white Mickey Mouse glove raised in a fist.
“We know that these actions are merely an attempt to prevent us from exercising our rights and to impose an agreement that will maintain the status quo at Disney,” the negotiating committee said.
