Severstal has tested a robot dog for the first time to transport metal on the territory of Severstal-Metiz and the Cherepovets Metallurgical Plant. The company tested the Deep Robotics model, which received several days of training to navigate the terrain, transport metal samples and monitor safety. For example, at the CherMK foundry, a robot successfully delivered refractory briquettes to their destination.
The robot dog is equipped with advanced technologies such as computer vision algorithms, 3D profiling and LiDAR. These functions allow measuring objects, moving objects up to 40 kg, and performing equipment inspections and diagnostics. It can also check the availability of protective equipment for employees, perform thermal imaging and gas analysis, and create maps for digital twins of businesses.
The robot can work continuously and in difficult conditions, transmitting data to a remote service. This will help to better diagnose gas leaks and reduce the need for human presence in hazardous areas such as mines and hot shops. The company plans to continue testing the robots at other facilities and use them to simplify labor costs in difficult and risky conditions, said Denis Kolupaev, head of R&D at Severstal-infocom.
