The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) released the Bluetooth 6.0 specification last Tuesday (3). The new standard paves the way for significant new features and improvements, particularly to location functions.
THE The main new feature of the standard is Bluetooth Channel Audio. The technology brings “distance sensing” to the device, which directly benefits “Find My Device”-style location tools, according to the SIG.
“The new Bluetooth Channel Sounding feature enables the creation of products that can calculate distances between two Bluetooth devices with significantly better accuracy than RSSI and the first-generation method,” the SIG notes. “The technology works in a completely different way and includes a variety of security locks to mitigate various types of risks,” it adds.
The science behind Channel Drilling is complex and can be seen in detail in the documentation published by SIG. In general, the solution uses bi-directional range distribution Centimeter-level information at significant distances.
THE Bluetooth 6.0 also improves ISOAL (Synchronous Adaptation Layer). The new version allows data to be transferred in smaller packets and recreated later.
In practice, new method reduces latency and reliability of Bluetooth transmissions.
It is now up to developers and manufacturers to implement hardware that supports Bluetooth 6.0. ThereIt will take some time for the new standard to be releaseddespite.
