The development consists of nanodiamonds with two coatings: a solid gold shell and a combination of gold and silicon dioxide. The second coating protects against external loads and helps to measure temperature more accurately. The effectiveness of the nanomaterials was confirmed in laboratory tests on tumor cells and melanoma tissues. Therefore, the percentage of living cells decreased when the laser was used to heat and measure the temperature.
In experiments on mice with melanoma, the combination of nanomaterials and laser proved to be the most effective: tumor growth slowed by 65.22%. In the future, scientists plan to continue research to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment in larger numbers of animals and in combination with other cancer treatments.
