One of the best things you can do for your brain is to eliminate the need for constant habits and not get stuck in a routine. According to one study, diversifying your daily activities and changing what you do can lead to improved overall cognitive function.

For the study, researchers evaluated participant data from the National Survey of Daily Experiences. They found that those who had variety in seven common daily activities (including paid work, time with children, leisure time, physical activity, and volunteering) scored higher on cognitive and executive functions. They also had better episodic memory.

A balanced, varied diet has been shown to lead to better mental health and excellent cognitive function. Changes in food intake increase activity in the posterior cingulate cortex. This part of the brain is responsible for cognitive and behavioral processes.

In one study, experts even found that people felt happier when they broke away from their usual routine and gave themselves the opportunity to explore new places and have new experiences.
