“We are now trying to connect the Mir and Shetab payment systems. Shetab is currently operating on a trial basis. I believe that in about six months the Mir payment system will also start operating in Iran,” TASS quotes Jalali as saying.

The upcoming launch of the Mir payment system in Iran became known in May 2023. The then Deputy Minister of Tourism, Cultural Heritage and Handicrafts of the Islamic Republic, Ali Asghar Shalbafian, stated that the countries had reached bilateral agreements on this issue.

In July 2024, Mir began operating in some restaurants and shopping centers in Myanmar – it became the 13th country in which, in addition to Russia, cards of the Russian payment system are accepted in full or in a limited format.
