This program, called Secure Enclave, is designed to create chips used in military and intelligence equipment. It includes several factories in different states, such as Arizona.

Intel has always been seen as a leading contender for such contracts with the U.S. military, despite disagreements with other chipmakers and concerns in Washington about dependence on a single company.

The deal also complements grants and loans Intel received under the Chip Act, which was introduced in March 2023 to revive semiconductor manufacturing in the United States.
