EA Vice President and General Manager of The Sims Kate Gorman explained that the team will focus on expanding The Sims universe in different ways rather than creating a new game from scratch.
One such project is Project Rene, which was previously considered a new main game in the series.
However, it’s now clear that this is a separate project that aims to bring multiplayer to the game. Furthermore, The Sims 4 will also be getting multiplayer in a future update, so it’s unclear where Project Rene fits into the mix.
According to EA, the series will move into new formats to give players more options. This includes a variety of games that will cover different categories of the life simulation genre.
Despite the cancellation of The Sims 5, EA promises that it will continue to develop The Sims 4 and deliver the experience that players expect from the new game.
