PFV01 was designed to evaluate the aerodynamics of the planned Radian One spaceplane, which will be launched horizontally using a rocket sled system, carrying up to five people and up to 2,270 kilograms of cargo into low Earth orbit and returning with up to 4,540 kilograms of cargo. The jet-powered prototype avoids international export controls such as ITAR because it does not yet include rocket technology. Radian Aerospace is also testing the vehicle’s thermal protection system and composite fuel tanks.
The company reports promising interest from potential customers and the first contracts have already been signed.
