This Whats up this Thursday, 14th, announced new group features for the platform. The main innovation is the new “Communities” tool, with which, according to information from TechTudo, it is possible to create several subgroups within one main group.

Think of it this way: in a group of several parents and teachers from the same school, it would be possible to bring together small groups that are part of the whole – for example between parents and teachers and with students from the same class.

A related point is that all groups created under the same “umbrella” will be managed by Community admins who can include or exclude people from each of these groups. Participants will continue to block people as well as report inappropriate members and messages. Meta also noted that leaving people from these groups – without the usual notice – should be more quiet. All subgroups are only visible to those in the Community, it is not possible to see them without being a member.

The innovation is still not working in Brazil and will arrive only after the elections. The reason is the agreement signed by Meta with TSE to prevent “significant changes” in the platform during the election period. Recently, the company launched a Q&A to combat fake news in elections in partnership with the court. There are a total of 16 questions such as where to take the voter registration card, how to justify the absence and which positions to discuss.

In addition to the announcement about Communities, WhatsApp also announced that it will allow users after the elections (for an undetermined period of time). react to messages (similar to the one on Instagram), share Files up to 2GB and do Voice call up to 32 people. It is not yet clear how many people can be included in the communities at the same time (existing groups number 256 people).

The news is announced to users about two weeks after a series of changes announced on the platform. voice messagesHow:

  • non-speech playback: Listen to voicemail while doing other things or reading and replying to other messages without having to keep the conversation open.
  • Pause/resume recording: While recording a message, you can now pause the recording in case there is an interruption or need to think about what to say and continue when you’re ready.
  • waveform view: Shows a visual representation of the sound in the voice message to help accompany the recording.
  • recording preview: Listen to your voice messages before sending them.
  • keep playing: When you are listening to a voicemail and want to pause it, you can resume the conversation and continue where you left off.
  • Accelerated playback of forwarded messages: Listen to voice messages 1.5x or 2x faster, both regular and forwarded messages.

Finally, they also appear shortly after users complained about the new version of WhatsApp Web released this year.

These are new bets for one of the main messaging apps used worldwide and definitely one of the most popular apps in Brazil.
