MTS Defender product director Andrey Biychuk told TASS that telephone scammers have begun to use a new deception scheme aimed at targeting Russians with a “gift” SIM card issued in their name.

Target: Stealing money from bank accounts.

The scammers are provided by the operator’s employees and report a gift SIM card from a balance of, for example, 450 rubles. If the client does not want it, he will have to withdraw the money to a bank account. To do this, the victim is asked for personal data: full name, passport, bank card. Sometimes you need to install an application for remote access or transfer a code from SMS.

Having gained access to personal data or accounts, scammers steal money from accounts. MTS advises not to trust strangers and regularly check your accounts for suspicious transactions. [ТАСС]
