BMW CEO Oliver Zipse said at the Paris Motor Show that it is time to lift the EU’s upcoming ban on the sale of internal combustion engines, due to take effect in 2035.

Zipse said the ban is “no longer feasible” because EV sales are far below expectations and EV subsidies are “unsustainable.” Lifting the ban will also reduce restrictions on Chinese batteries.

Otherwise, the ban will lead to a “massive contraction” of the auto industry.”
