Previously, the court accepted Shell’s Attorney General’s claim and scheduled preliminary hearings for December 11. The reasons for the loss were not specified in the court ruling.
On October 2, the court registered a lawsuit by the Prosecutor General’s Office against the foreign structures of Shell and the Russian Shell Neftegaz Development LLC. The essence of the claim was not disclosed.
In 2022, Shell could not abandon the Sakhalin-2 project without suffering financial losses. The company’s management began negotiations to sell its stake to Chinese companies, but the transaction could only be completed at a large discount.
In May 2022, Shell estimated its losses from leaving Russia and joint projects with Russian companies at $3.9 billion. About half of this amount is associated with the output of the Sakhalin-2 project.
