According to the publication’s interlocutors, Varaksino notified retailers of an 8% increase in prices for its Varaksino and Selo Zelenoe brands since the beginning of November. Okskaya poultry farm announced a 5% price increase from November and Volzhanin already increased prices for retail chains by 5% in early October.
Distributor Praxis-ovo announced plans to increase prices for Praxis brand products (produced by Varaksino) by up to 12% starting November 5. As the publication points out, the increase in production costs is associated with the increase in prices of packaging materials, feed and veterinary medicines. Labor costs also rose amid staffing shortages.
President of the Association of Retail Trade Companies Igor Karavaev noted that requests for price increases are carefully monitored and retailers try to smoothly translate cost increases into final prices for consumers.
The minimum price for a dozen eggs in AKORT retail chains is now 90 rubles, 14% less than the average Russian prices recorded by Rosstat, Karavaev notes.
According to the Russian Poultry Union, the largest producer of chicken eggs in the country is the Tavros group of companies, which produced 1.7 billion eggs last year. Then come the Sinyavinskaya poultry farms (1.6 billion), Volzhanin (1.47 billion), Okskaya (1.29 billion), Roskar (1.28 billion), Komos Group (owns the “Varaksino” factories , “Mendeleevskaya”, “Derzhavinskaya”), total production – 1.24 billion pieces.
- A month ago, the FAS developed a mechanism to curb the prices of chicken eggs. It is planned to include eggs of the first and second categories in the list of socially significant products and to prohibit retail chains from charging suppliers remuneration for selling a certain amount of products.
- At the end of 2023, the FAS opened proceedings against several chicken egg producers. Vedomsto stated that they allowed a 94% increase in the sales prices of different categories of eggs. The FAS saw in this signs of violation of the law on the protection of competition.
