Scammers became active on Telegram by distributing malware disguised as photos. The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs reported this and added that such messages pose a real threat to users.

The ministry released an example of a message in which a stranger asked: “Hello, is that you in the photo?” Attached to the message is a 9.3 MB file with the .apk extension, which cannot be found in the photo. As the Ministry of Internal Affairs explains, this type of extension is specific to malicious programs and such files should not be downloaded in any case.

Law enforcement authorities urge users to be careful and not fall for the tricks of scammers. If you receive such a message, it is best to ignore it and avoid downloading suspicious files to protect your devices from potential threats.
