Social networks once again declare war on accounts dedicated to Tracking the Private Jets of Celebrities and Millionaires. This time it’s time instagram And Topicswhich blocked profiles that tracked the flights of Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner, among others.

All of these accounts were run by Jack Sweeney, who has made headlines in the past after he was suspended from X (Twitter) and other platforms where he tracked the private jets of Elon Musk and Taylor Swift in real time. The curious thing is that Meta did not notify him in advance about the start of the blocking.

As Sweeney posted, the first account dedicated to tracking the private jets that disappeared from Instagram and Threads yesterday was Elon Musk’s account. But after several hours, the same thing happened to five others, dedicated to different personalities and businessmen. Initially, Meta’s ban did not affect only those profiles that were dedicated to following Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. Although a few hours later they were also suspended.

The young man claims that, unlike previous cases, Menlo Park residents did not warn him or explain the decision.. In addition, he points out that 38 accounts on different platforms have already been blocked in recent years.

Although Instagram and Threads reportedly did not communicate with Jack Sweeney, they did provide an explanation to the press. According to a Meta representative TechCrunchaccounts designed to track private jets violate their privacy policy and constitute “risk of physical harm to people”and that’s why it was closed.

Sweeney points out that the block is so broad that he can’t even appeal it to Zuckerberg’s Oversight Board. The above says he finds it incredible that tracking private jets based on publicly available information is so controversial and that his accounts do not violate Instagram and Threads rules.

He also highlighted that until yesterday, the only profile of this type that he was forced to remove on these platforms was Taylor Swift’s after the artist threatened him with legal action earlier in the year. “I don’t know exactly who or what motivated Meta. Do they suddenly care about something that hasn’t bothered them for years?” he wrote.

On the warpath against trackers

Using social media to track private jet flights has become very popular in recent years. Elon Musk was the first to take action against Sweeney after taking control of Twitter, while something similar happened to Taylor Swift on the platform. The young man continues to track their trips, albeit with non-automated profiles and a 24-hour delay.

While it is true that such online activities pose a risk to the safety of those involved, especially if they are individuals who have already had disastrous experiences with stalkers, there is another point of view.

Some believe that de-tracking on social media tends to hide the excessive use of private jets celebrities and millionaires. Especially because of the impact it has on the environment. This is especially true in the case of Taylor Swift, who has been accused of being the world’s most polluting celebrity.
