The company’s new CEO, Kelly Ortberg, insists on selling assets to optimize costs. The terms of the deal are still in an early stage of development, the publication clarifies, but Ortberg has already begun looking for buyers for Starliner and other projects with NASA.

At the same time, Boeing will continue its participation in the Space Launch System project to explore the Moon as part of NASA’s Artemis I mission.

The space business is part of Boeing’s defense division, which produces fighter jets and helicopters for the Pentagon. The losses of this division amounted to 3.1 billion dollars with revenues of 18.5 billion dollars in the period January-June 2024.

Boeing has already negotiated with Joseph Bezos’ Blue Origin to sell some of the programs it is implementing together with NASA.

Since mid-September there has been a massive strike at Boeing; Some 30 thousand workers have demanded higher salaries. In October, Boeing announced its decision to cut 10% of its workforce (17,000 people), after which Ortberg asked to focus on work and innovation in key areas and not disperse efforts.

The company wants to raise $15 billion through common stock and mandatory convertible bonds to overcome the crisis.
