The Russian market for natural language processing solutions (conversational AI) in 2024 will grow by 25% compared to last year and will exceed 7.45 billion rubles, Vedomosti reports citing a study by IT company Naumen.

The largest share of the conversational AI market in the business sphere was occupied by voice assistants (26.8%, sales volume 1.6 billion rubles). Almost the same proportion is occupied by voice robots used in surveys and robocalls (1.55 billion rubles). In 2023, bots first began to be used more frequently to handle outbound calls than to receive incoming calls.

Compared to 2019, the chatbot segment grew by 44% in 2023 (up to 1.2 billion or 19% of the market); Naumen analysts point out that the high growth rates of this sector will continue in the near future. According to the study authors, the fastest growth of the conversational AI market was observed between 2019 and 2021; It was then that several large banks and telecommunications companies bought a significant stake in services that developed natural language processing systems.

Thus, in 2019, Sberbank bought a 51% stake in the TsRT group of companies, which deals with facial recognition and intelligent speech technologies, with the long-term goal of introducing the product to the international market. In early 2024, SL Soft bought a platform to launch voice artificial intelligence robots and Skolkovo resident Robovoice.

Chatbots are being implemented most actively in retail and banking (42% and 27% of companies, respectively). Healthcare and financial organizations also prefer voice assistants.

According to HSE ISSEK calculations for 2022-2023, Russian companies prefer to implement domestic artificial intelligence solutions, and the priority product of 82.4% of the surveyed organizations is speech synthesis and recognition technologies.

Just AI, in a 2021 study on the conversational AI market in Russia, found that the largest customers in this market are state and municipal institutions. For example, of the billion rubles of annual income earned by the ODM group of companies, 80% comes from income from the execution of government orders.
