Loan borrowers will become more active in paying off their debts in 2024, according to estimates from the National Association of Professional Collection Agencies (NAPCA), Forbes reports. In total, more than 385 thousand people paid off their debts in the amount of up to 30 billion rubles, this is 1.7 times more than in 2023.

At the same time, the results of the three quarters of 2024 exceeded both the indicators of 2023 and 2022. Then, in total, 360 and 332 thousand Russians paid off their overdue debts, paying 23 billion and 19 billion rubles, respectively. . The association’s analysts expect that by the end of the year the number of repaid debtors will exceed half a million people.

According to NAPCA, Russians were the most active in repaying debts arising from cash loans and credit cards (72% and 27%, respectively). The average amount of debt repaid according to the results of nine months of this year approached 67 thousand rubles. At the same time, collection agencies actively used discounting, the practice of writing off part of the debt, provided that debtors quickly pay the remaining amount.

NAPCA representatives, in a conversation with Forbes, mentioned a significant increase in discount volumes, an increase in the share of debts sold by banks to collectors under an assignment agreement and a general increase in the salaries of the Russians as the reasons for the record activity. of the Russians when it comes to closing overdue debts. Furthermore, in May this year, the Bank of Russia increased macroprudential limits for borrowers with a high debt burden; New loans cannot now be issued if the borrower’s average monthly payments exceed 80% of their average monthly income.

At the end of September this year, the State Duma approved in first reading a bill to tighten the liability of debt collectors for illegal actions in debt collection: they face up to 10 years in prison or a fine of up to half a million rubles. .
