How to find the perfect ultrabook for a reasonable price?

The laptop market has long reached territorial compromises: choosing lightness and portability, you have to sacrifice performance or ease of use. But Infinix, a company that primarily deals with relatively inexpensive smartphones, was able to surprise here too.

I got to test their new ultrabook INBOOK Air Pro+. After a week of use, I was pleasantly surprised, although not without some comments.

I’ll tell you what a Windows ultrabook can do for you.

Briefly:

  • The set is strict. Nothing extra
    Design. Refinement and lightness
    Display. It’s a delight
Performance is good. Checked it in my tasks
    What about autonomy?
    Small features to consider
For that kind of money it’s hard to find better

The set is strict. Nothing extra

The new phone is in a large cardboard box, inside of which two more packages fit. One of them contains the laptop itself and documentation, including a warranty card valid for 1 year.

In the second you will find a 65 W power supply and a dense USB-C/USB-C cable. Both are made in black, which I personally like better than the typical white adapters with wires, which are already boring.

Design. Refinement and lightness

It’s simply impossible to compare the design with the MacBook Air.

The case thickness is only 4.5 mm (at its narrowest point). Coupled with a weight of 1 kg, this will make you forget that you are holding a full-fledged computer in your hands. But it’s not just about aesthetics: the magnesium-aluminum body is resistant to scratches and light impacts. True, there were still small fingerprints on the matte finish under the light.

What pleasantly surprises is the build quality. Hinge cover has almost ideal degree of hardness: you can open it with one hand (you need to get used to this, this is not a MacBook after all), and the screen does not wobble when typing. Nothing plays, wobbles or creaks, as it should be in a more premium segment. In this small but critical moment, Infinix pays attention to detail.

The variety of ports is another plus. Do you want to connect a flash drive, monitor, phone or headphones? Easily! See for yourself:

► HDMI 1.4
► three USB-C (one with support for fast charging)
► USB-A 3.2 Gen 1
► 3.5 mm audio jack

The only pity is that there is no microSD slot.

The key travel is smooth and pleasant

The laptop easily handles an external 4K monitor with a 60Hz refresh range. It doesn’t even turn on the fan when using it.

But this keyboard gave me mixed feelings. At first glance, everything is fine: the keyboard moves smoothly, there is a two-level backlight, clear font and a pleasant tactile surface. Short, clear and inexpensive action keys (1.5 mm) Ensure comfortable use of the laptop.

During the week I wrote several articles and a large amount of news. It took a couple of hours to get used to the keyboard. The design does not provide tactile feedback for me, especially when typing quickly. Then I got used to it.

It is perfect for students and people who often work with texts. The only thing I can’t get used to is the lack of a NUMpad, but this is my personal quibble.

I had a couple of questions about the touchpad. First of all, why isn’t it possible to click on it in any area? There are two clear zones under the influence of the left and right hand. Perhaps this is a nitpick coming from a MacBook (by the way, trackpad sizes are almost indefinite), but usage drops off a bit. Touchpad responsiveness high highaccuracy of work too.

Physical impact in the middle and upper parts of the touchpad does not work, only taps, alas. The finger glides easily over the surface. Height positioning.

Display. It’s a delight

14″ OLED display with development 2.8K It turned out to be a real discovery. I’ve tested it on movies, photo editing, and text processing, and it performs equally well in all scenarios.

High contrast (1,000,000:1), fast response time (120Hz), making the interface and videos smooth.

There is also an IR module for face recognition in the dark

The color range complies with the DCI-P3 standard. For professional image work, this screen is just perfect.

Officially, the manufacturer claims a peak brightness of 440 nits, but when working in HDR mode it can reach almost 500 nits. Personally, I didn’t turn the brightness to maximum, even when sitting by the window.

Performance is good. Checked it in my tasks

The Infinix INBOOK Air Pro+ proves that even the thinnest laptop can perform well with good hardware. The model I tested was equipped with an Intel Core i7-1355U processor (10 cores, 12 threads, overclocked to 5 GHz), 32 GB of LPDDR5X memory and a 1 TB SSD.

There is also a simpler design, which has an Intel Core i5-1334U chip (10 cores, 12 threads, up to 4.6 GHz), 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal memory.

Tests in work tasks

First, I tested it on typical office tasks: Microsoft Word, Excel, and a dozen Chrome tabs. Everything worked quickly, switching between tasks was instant. Even with 20 open tabs, the laptop didn’t hesitate, thanks to the powerful processor.

Next I loaded up Photoshop and DaVinci Resolve. Editing high-resolution photos went smoothly. 4K video edited reliably, although rendering took longer than on devices with detailed graphics. This is understandable, because there is only integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics.

Games

This ultrabook is not a gaming laptop, but I decided to test it in games. Valorant achieved a stable 50 FPS at medium temperatures, Minecraft produced about 60 FPS. This is quite enough for casual gaming.

I also went to the Microsoft Store to see what the store could offer me. Forza Horizon 5 was running around 30 frames per second on low. For some reason, the store suddenly determined that the latest CoD: Black Ops 6 is perfectly optimized for this laptop. Just for fun, I downloaded it, looked at 15 FPS in multiplayer with low sound, and closed it. I don’t listen to the Microsoft Store anymore.

What about autonomy?

Well, a very thin laptop, it lasts quite a long time for such dimensions

Infinix promises up to 10 hours of battery life. In general, this seems to be true when working in mixed mode. For example, if you surf the Internet or watch a video. Or both in parallel.

In games, this figure drops to about 4 hours. And if you mix heavy applications and light Internet surfing, then in this mode the computer will last about 6–7 hours.

What pleases is the fairly low heating. The ultrabook does not achieve peak results even in graphic games for it. The housing on the left side of the speaker gets a little warm, but nothing more. Thanks to the big cooler that set the standard.

But note that with heavy use, the Infinix INBOOK Air Pro+ is unlikely to last until the evening. Even taking into account the fact that it hardly heats up.

Small features to consider

There is support for Windows Hello through facial recognition using the front camera. Authorization takes a second—fingerprints are no longer needed.

In addition, the ultrabook supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2: modern, albeit not the most top-end standards for high speed and stable connection.

For that kind of money it’s hard to find better

Looks preliminary on all fronts

The Infinix INBOOK Air Pro+ isn’t perfect, but it offers a good combination of features for the price. It’s an ideal choice for students and freelancers looking for a laptop that’s stylish, lightweight, and powerful enough.

Yes, the keyboard takes some getting used to, and the battery life is not record-breaking, but for 80-100 thousand this is one of the best Windows ultrabooks you can buy. Especially with the current exchange rate.
