The court ruling against “Hamster” only applied to the French subdomain, meaning the main site remained available in the country. After the decision was implemented, the loophole was discovered and French authorities, including regulator Arcom, were tasked with closing the gap.

France has passed a law requiring pornographic sites to verify the age of their visitors. The law was unanimously approved by Parliament in July 2020 and forms part of wider legislation to tackle domestic violence.
