The Bugatti Chiron, especially the Super Sport 300+, is a $4 million speed demon that set a new speed record in 2019. It reached 490.484 km/h during a one-way race at the Era-Lessien proving ground in Volkswagen, earning it the title of the fastest production car in the world. However, setting an official top speed record means completing a roundtrip race at top speed in an independent road test under the supervision of an independent agency. The average top speed between two races is supposed to be the car’s official top speed, and the Chiron only drove one, so you won’t see the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ on the list of fastest stock cars.

The Hennessey Venom F5 has yet to compete in official top speed races. But there is every chance of setting a record in the near future. According to Motor Trend, the incredible SSC Tuatara became the fastest car in the world, accelerating at the Kennedy Space Center in January 2021 at an average speed of 455.28 km/h. It outperformed the Koenigsegg Agera RS, which took the lead in 2017 with 447.24 km/h in the official 2017 attempt.

If the SSC Tuatara or the long-awaited Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut don’t break the 300 mph barrier, we think the Hennessey Venom F5 can rest on its laurels. Also, this isn’t John Hennessy’s first rodeo. The man has broken numerous speed records in his Venom GT supercar, essentially a Lotus with a Corvette V8 engine. It accelerated from 0 to 300 km/h in 13.63 seconds, and to 321 km/h from a complete standstill in just 12.51 seconds, faster than the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport and the Koenigsegg Agera R. And in 2014, the Venom GT accelerated to 435.31 km/h. However, these were one-sided aerodynamic tests. Remember, the rules state that the official top speed must be an average speed of two races.

From the looks of it, the Venom F5 is getting close to taking the speed crown from the SSC Tuatara; it quickly accelerated to 402 km/h during high-speed stability tests in early January 2022 in full-pitch F5 mode, and during a test in March last year, it reached 437 km/h. John Hennessy claims that the Venom F5 will have a top speed of 500 km/h and will be the fastest production car in the world.
