The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs will clean the traffic police database, where the installation locations of cameras recording traffic violations are incorrectly indicated. Currently, there are about 50 thousand points in the database, but NAS experts calculated that more than 20 thousand of them do not correspond to the real location of the complexes. The Ministry reported that they have begun to correct errors and updated information is available on the regional pages of the official website of the State Traffic Inspectorate.
According to human rights activists, drivers are facing the “kangaroo effect” due to inaccurate data. Drivers who see a fake camera in their navigators suddenly brake and then accelerate again. This maneuver creates emergency situations and increases the risk of collisions on the roads. Experts believe that eliminating errors will help make road traffic safer.
Against this background, the United States appealed to the Ministry of Internal Affairs with a proposal to remove non-existent cameras from the database and clarify their real location. According to experts, reliable information will allow drivers to behave calmer on the road and will also reduce the number of dangerous maneuvers.
