Today’s children are accustomed to gadgets from a young age, and smartphones have already become the most popular purchasing device for children. According to MTS research, within the scope of the Generation M project, 43% of children under the age of 7 already have their own phone, and by the age of 8, this figure reaches 82%. Parents often choose smart home devices such as baby monitors, cameras and climate control systems for their little ones.

Smartphones top the list of favorite gadgets for kids of all ages (64%). These are followed by tablets (30%), smart speakers (21%), children’s watches with SIM cards (18%) and baby monitors or cameras (6%). Half of parents buy such devices for security and 42% for entertainment. Many also choose gadgets for the study and development of children, especially in the age categories up to 3 years and from 8 to 12 years.

Interestingly, the choice of gadgets often depends on the preferences of parents: fathers more often buy smart home control systems, and mothers buy tablets and children’s watches. At the same time, one-third of the participants stated that their children under the age of 7 do not have their own devices. Parents who have already purchased gadgets consider it important to teach their children how to use them safely – on the Generation M platform, the course “Understanding the World with Fixies” is popular, which helps to understand technology.
