On the review site “It’s a Scam” you can find complaints from alleged customers of the MySpeech school, who claim that it was closed in September and that they were asked to write refund requests. Some so-called clients complained that they had not received their funds until November.

The online platform MySpeech actively raised funds in the venture capital market. The Vedomosti newspaper, citing the Telegram channel of Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, reported in March 2024 that the Moscow Innovation Cluster (MIK) i.moscow helped the MySpeech project, an online school for speech correction and writing for children from 4 to 8 years old: raise 17.5 million rubles.

Forbes, citing Okhrimchuk, wrote that MySpeech in March 2023 attracted investments from the managing partner of the educational platform Skyeng Alexander Laryanovsky, the founder of the marketing agency Media 108 Vsevolod Baev, the owner of the media research agency Ex Libris Evgeniy Larionov, the co-founder of the online fitness platform FitStars Ilya Kapustin and several other business angels. According to the publication, Makeikina and Okhrimchuk worked at Skyeng: Okhrimchuk was the director of direct sales and Makeikina was the director of the mass recruitment department. The entrepreneurs launched MySpeech in August 2021 and estimated audience growth of 20% monthly. The publication notes that the platform works on the model of the Skyeng English learning service (according to Smart Ranking, it ranks second in Russia in terms of revenue in the third quarter of 2024).

The EdTech market in Russia will reach 145 billion in 2024, 21% more than last year, according to a report by the analytical company Smart Ranking, published in November.

“If it weren’t for inflation, we could say that it is still a good performance in relation to the global market. However, we are forced to admit that in the third quarter there was a drop in the growth rate of the EdTech market, although still insignificant: the growth was 19.6% compared to 22% in the first two quarters. “We attribute the slowdown to a reduction in demand for IT skills and external factors, such as an increase in the key rate,” the research firm’s report for the third quarter says.
