Samsung’s smart refrigerators will help users when replenishing food, recommend purchasing low stock items. Announced on Thursday (2), the AI-based functionality was developed in partnership with online grocery shopping platform Instacart.

This feature uses Samsung Vision AI food recognition technology to identify items stored in the refrigerator and identify running out items. Thanks to the integration with the Instacart app, the online service will display products that correspond to items that are on sale and are about to run out.

Models compatible with the mechanism have a camera on the refrigerator door that can record the placement and removal of food. Other internal lenses complete the system by controlling the products inside the device, although not all compartments are visible.

According to Samsung, AI Vision Inside technology recognizes almost 40 types of food, even vegetables and fruits. For those who cannot be identified, there is the possibility of placing it manually using the Samsung Food app on the refrigerator or via a smartphone.

Ordering via the refrigerator screen

Initially the new feature will only be available on: 2025 model with different screen types from the Samsung Bespoke refrigerator seriesLike the 32-inch Bespoke AI Family Hub and the 9-inch AI Home with AI Vision Inside system. In these versions, users will soon be able to shop via the Instacart application on the door screen.

Also in 2025, previous Bespoke AI Family Hub refrigerators will also have access to the new experience through firmware updates released by the manufacturer that improve older models. For this purpose, home appliances must also have AI Vision Inside technology.

“With the Instacart Developer Platform that will power this integration, Samsung Bespoke refrigerator owners will be able to place grocery orders and easily refill empty refrigerator shelves with same-day delivery through Instacart and their favorite local retailers,” said Instacart’s director of product. Daniel Danker.
