Calculations are still being made on the damage to residents of the Russian Federation from the actions of cyber fraudsters in 2024, but, according to a representative of Sberbank, “the amount will be in the range of 250 to 300 billion rubles.” Previously, the media cited data from the Ministry of Internal Affairs for 11 months last year, when Russians lost 168 billion rubles.
This amount was already 14% higher than in the same period in 2023. And yet, Stanislav Kuznetsov is confident that in 2025 it will be possible to reduce the volume of thefts. But this will depend on “how effectively the government and companies coordinate efforts to combat fraud.”
According to him, one of the effective solutions could be the creation of a unified national anti-fraud platform to block phishing sites, compromised phone numbers, suspicious transactions and identified fraudulent accounts.
He also considers that informing the population is an important measure. According to the expert, the main fraudulent schemes will probably not change in 2025: they will continue to be fraudulent obtaining of data to steal an account in state services, messages in instant messengers supposedly in the name of the manager and fake calls from departments.
