Chinese officials are considering selling TikTok’s leadership division to Elon Musk if the apps are banned in the United States, a source told Bloomberg.

19 January US court should finally decide the fate of TikTok. He is expected to support the ban. ByteDance, the owner of TikTok, said it has no plans to sell the app and would immediately stop operating it in the US if a ban is imposed.

However, senior Chinese officials are considering alternative options that could keep TikTok operating in America. One of them is selling the application to Elon Musk.

A billionaire could get TikTok through X and control two components of the networks at once. What’s more, TikTok’s massive amount of data could be used for xAI, Musk’s other data mining company.

At the moment, the Chinese authorities have not made a final decision on how to proceed in the event of a ban. It is unknown whether ByteDance or Musk himself is aware of such proposals. Negotiations are also not underway yet.
