A government source told the publication that the reason for the unscheduled inspections was the appeal of deputy Sergei Lisovsky, who requested at the end of December 2024 to carry out an inspection of the “Traffic Light” in the context of numerous violations: sales of Products from low quality and unsafe.

In particular, Svetofor suppliers recorded non-compliance with the law on labeling, technical regulations on food production and other violations, Izvestia writes. “This could become a precedent for all retail chains that allow the sale of dishonest and low-quality products and deceive customers,” Lisovsky said in an interview with the newspaper.

In his speech to the Cabinet of Ministers, Lisovsky stated that Svetofor concludes contracts with manufacturers not directly, but through logistics centers, which impose their conditions on suppliers, explaining this by the fact that trade legislation does not apply to them. relevant. For example, logistics centers pay for delivered products only after they are sold on Svetofor shelves and return expired and unsold products to manufacturers.

According to Oleg Pavlov, director of the “Public Consumer Initiative”, an unscheduled inspection of the “Traffic Light” may force other discount stores to abandon unfair practices. “It cannot be ruled out that after the controls in this retail chain, the attention of the control authorities will once again focus on other similar companies,” said the expert.
