Taiwan Minister of Economy JW Kuo said that times have changed and private companies can now make decisions based on technological progress and market opportunities. According to the minister, TSMC is building factories in the United States to serve American customers, as 60% of the world’s chip design companies are located in this country.
Previously, TSMC had to comply with rules requiring overseas chip production to be at least two generations behind domestic capacity. However, with a recent policy update, the company is now allowed to produce chips using new processes abroad.
