iPhone 15 owners have access to functions that limit the maximum battery charge level. This feature, according to Apple, should increase battery life.

Last spring, I encountered some dissatisfaction here with the way she implemented this – including the fact that with it you almost always see an incomplete icon in the laboratory. In the end, I didn’t use it.

A couple of weeks ago, I showed the battery status of the iPhone 15 Pro Max after 9 months and asked you to share your statistics on our Telegram channel. The results for those who did not disdain including charging restrictions in the system surprised me.

We need to admit mistakes.

Compare

On the left is the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which is over a year old (95% limit). On the right is the iPhone 15 Pro, a similar situation.

Look at the screenshots above. For almost all readers taking advantage of the increased charging restrictions, the condition of the battery became clear. much better than mine. Let me remind you that since April 2024 my food consumption has dropped to 91% (now it’s already 90%).

Several examples can be attributed to chance and radically different use cases. But as new evidence emerged, it became clear from you: the function clearly works, otherwise it would be difficult to explain such a large difference.

Left: iPhone 15 Pro without restrictions after a year, iPhone 15 Pro Max on the left With restrictions, 11 months.

There was also evidence from readers who, like me, refused any restrictions on charging. And everything there is about the same as with me. Some have 92%, some have 88%, and so on.

There are many more examples in the thread, I won’t give them all now. After scrolling through the screenshots and comparing the results, I realized that I was mistaken.

I’m not at all scared by the prospect of replacing the iPhone battery after a couple of years. And I’m not interested in the service life of these spare parts; I haven’t entered this menu for at least six months. But it’s hard to argue with the result. Moreover, judging by the strong response to the previous article, the most important thing is to preserve the battery capacity as much as possible.

Therefore, we confirm: it was wrong, limiting iPhone charging still helps extend its battery life. I updated that article, announced it, and I recommend you go to the menu. SettingsBatteryCharger.

If you’re still not taking advantage of this reduction, iOS will suggest a level of charging optimization based on your iPhone usage rate. And while it comes to that, maybe you should turn it on too?

I ended up giving myself 85%, as the system recommends. Let’s see if the rate of decline in maximum capacity decreases over the next six months.
