It turned out that people prefer to avoid the manifestation of empathy when they watched photos of individuals. They emphasized an average of 34% of cases. When the participants saw the pictures of the groups, they chose the manifestation of empathy in 53% of the cases.
It is possible for group photographs that depict a few people to help people to empathize by providing more context to people. In addition, it was more difficult to define groups to participants than individual people.
