A lawyer representing the plaintiff against the State Farm Insurance company used AI to prepare a draft of a document (including Google Gemini and Westlaw Tools). This draft was sent to another company – K & L Gates was added to the official document without verification.

Judge Milner first believed in the materials presented, but after checking them, he found that at least two connections were fictional. After the request, it turned out that the document had even more false quotations.

The judge stressed that the use of AI is dangerous without verification and that he could mislead the court. He said that no employees of the two companies even try to control the resources before sending a document to the court.
