WhatsApp has made it official this Thursday (14):communities”. The tool will, for example, add various management and interaction options, but will only arrive in Brazil next year, as the app won’t get any great news before the 2022 Elections.

According to the company, Communities will allow people to gather in a group on a particular topic of interest and there they will be able to receive notifications, organize smaller groups and discuss important topics.

“For example, we believe Communities will make it easier for a school principal to bring all parents and guardians together to share important announcements and form groups for specific classes and extracurricular or volunteer activities,” he said.

The idea is that the function is a tool that facilitates real-time conversation and is more efficient than e-mails or channels that only forward messages, such as virtual panels for internal communication in educational institutions.

Communities will be private and therefore messages will be protected with end-to-end encryption. They will also have access to the WhatsApp reporting channel to reduce crime cases and inappropriate content sharing in virtual spaces.

WhatsApp also announced that it will have a description of the communities and a list of groups that people can choose to join. Among other innovations, virtual spaces and traditional chats will attract reactions (mark messages with emojis); messages deleted by administrators; File sharing: File sharing limit increased to 2GB and voice calls up to 32 participants.

Safety

WhatsApp has made Communities safe and therefore added features that provide more privacy for members. Participants of a group, for example, cannot access the number of people from other Communities. In this case, only those in the same areas and administrators will be able to see this information.

Communities involved in crimes such as distributing child sexual exploitation material or coordinating violence or human trafficking will be permanently banned from the app.

“We will also build community messaging features for Messenger, Facebook, and Instagram. I’m excited to see how that progresses as we start testing WhatsApp Communities today and roll out over the next few months,” said Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
