Igor Ashmanov suggested when and why YouTube could be blocked in Russia. This will happen “by the fall”, when the analogues of it – Rutube and video on VKontakte – will fully begin to work in the country.
Ashmanov told a round table in the Public Chamber that in any case, the Russians must count on blocking YouTube.
The expert suggested that this would happen in the fall, when the YouTube analogue, the Russian Rutube, will fully start operating in Russia, and the video platform on VKontakte will become "more or less independent hosting."
“When the normal operation of these services begins, a replacement (YouTube, ed.) will appear,” said Igor Ashmanov.
Ashmanov recalled the fine that Google -owner of YouTube- received on July 18 by court decision for not removing prohibited information in Russia. The billing penalty amounted to 21.07 billion rubles. Google received its first fine for billing in December 2021 - it amounted to 7.2 billion rubles.
