According to Pricempire, the total value of in-game items dropped by more than $1 billion in just a few hours.
This was due to the introduction of a new contract system: now players will be able to exchange five items from the “Secret” category for a knife or glove from the selected collection.
If the original items all had kill counters, the resulting item will also have this feature. Previously such skins could only be obtained from cases, making them extremely rare and expensive.
After the update, the prices of elite knives and gloves dropped by 40-60%, while the cost of cheap items increased sharply; these became the “raw materials” of craftsmanship.
The update also introduced Retake mode and fixed interactions between smoke bombs and Molotov cocktails. Valve has yet to comment on the situation, but players are already calling the update “the most devastating” for the CS2 economy.
