Recently, Apple released four beta versions of the iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 mobile operating systems, as well as desktop macOS Ventura. Developers and test users have reached 5 text editing in IMESSAGE, ie. just five versions of the same message. It can also be edited for 15 minutes and the time to cancel message sending has been reduced from 15 minutes to 2 minutes.
In beta versions it is also possible to view the history of editing a message, previously there was only a notification about the fact of editing.
No details have been disclosed from Apple regarding this feature. According to insider information, this logic is built into the editing function, as the company fights abuse when handling an unsent message on the messenger. If the insiders are right, the developer suggests that someone could intentionally edit a message in iMessage to make it look like the user is agreeing to something. So there are also words that it is easier to undo editing and sending by simply turning off iMessage. Therefore, it is easier for the user to enter SMS correspondence without cancellation and editing of previously sent messages, as in iMessage.
This is how iOS 16 developers do not allow bullying, insults, etc. on the Web. It is assumed that they decide to deal with it. In this regard, insiders ask questions about whether the declared function is then necessary in principle. So far, Apple’s logic isn’t entirely clear.
