According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the motherboard poses a potential burn hazard. The recall affects approximately 10,000 items.

“The capacitor on the motherboard is installed in the reverse position, which can cause a short circuit, overheating or melting, fire and burns,” the commission said.

On December 29, ASUS initiated a motherboard recall. But its message may have gone unnoticed by some consumers. The company also noted that only “a few incidents” of the malfunction were reported in North America.
