Due to the closure of the Simferopol airport this summer, 95% of tourists were forced to go to Crimea by car, another 5% traveled to the peninsula by train. At the same time, the total volume of tourist flow to the republic has been halved.

Number of tourists in Crimea halved in 2022

Sergey Romashkin, vice president of the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR), told RIA about this. According to him, last year no more than 62% of tourists came to Crimea by car, the rest preferred to get to the republic by plane.

Romashkin called Sochi the “flying” resort, which received more than half of the total number of travelers in Russia.

The deputy chairman of ATOR said that the “recent events in Novofederovka and near Dzhankoy” did not affect the reduction of the tourist flow to Crimea, since now 90% of those who want to go to the peninsula have already rested or are now on vacation.

The decrease in tourist flow also affected the resorts of the Krasnodar Territory. In particular, Anapa, where the airport has also been closed since February 24, received 10-12% fewer tourists.
