HPSC is expected to be used in nearly all future space missions, from planetary exploration to flights to the Moon and Mars surface.
HPSC will use the 8-core SiFive ® Intelligenceâ X280 RISC-V vector core and four additional SiFive RISC-V cores, which will increase the computing capabilities of modern space computers by a factor of 100. Such a significant increase in computing performance will help open up new opportunities for various mission elements such as autonomous rovers, imaging, spaceflight, guidance systems, communications and more.
SiFive’s head of business development said the X280 core “shows huge performance gains over competing processor technologies” and that the company’s IP “enables NASA to benefit from the support, flexibility and long-term viability of the rapidly growing global RISC.” -V ecosystem.”
