After giving users the ability to transfer their profiles to new accounts last week, Netflix said it will allow subscribers to create “sub-accounts” starting next year in line with broader “account-sharing monetization” plans.

Earlier this year, Netflix reported subscriber loss for the first time in 10 years. To remedy the situation, the company gradually began to exclude subscribers from the exchange of passwords. The company conducted tests in which users in Chile, Costa Rica, and Peru were asked to pay extra for a sub-account if Netflix found that someone was using the owner’s subscription outside of their family.
