Survey results show that young and middle-aged Americans who consider themselves beautiful believe that wearing a mask prevents them from making a positive impression on others. Conversely, people who find themselves unattractive have the idea that masks can improve their appearance.

The authors of the study also noted that wearing a mask has transformed from a means of self-defense during the pandemic to a form of self-presentation in the post-pandemic period.
