As part of the parade, the country’s intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) were introduced to the world. Pictures show 11 Hwaseong-17 ICBMs.

Experts suggest that a new solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missile prototype was also shown at the parade. According to Ankit Panda, a senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment and author of Kim Jong Un and The Bomb, this may be enough to defeat existing US missile defenses.

According to Leif-Erik Isley, a professor at Seoul Ewha University, this is how Pyongyang decided to send a signal to the world community.
