UAE authorities and Joby Aviation plan to launch an air taxi in Dubai in 2026

The Emir of Dubai, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, announced the resumption of the air taxi program in the United Arab Emirates. According to plans by state authorities, a flying taxi in Dubai will be launched in 2026, the Associated Press reports.

Air taxi services will cost at least 30% more than rides in premium car brands. In Dubai, a one kilometer taxi ride costs $0.5 and the minimum fare is capped at $3.25.

The UAE’s partner in the implementation of the program will be the American aviation company Joby Aviation. Its prototype can reach speeds of up to 320 km/h and travel 240 km on a single battery charge. The authorities of the United Arab Emirates have not yet signed a contract with Joby Aviation, the agency notes.

The artificial island of Palm Jumeirah and the Dubai Marina area can satisfy a significant demand for air taxi services, because they are located next to the Dubai International Airport and the business and tourist centers are located there, clarifies AP.
