Netflix announced last Tuesday (14) disabled the platform’s ‘Surprise Me’ button. On a note, the platform claims that the feature was retired in January due to low subscriber membership.
The company explains that users tend to access the catalog with certain movie and series titles or genres they already had in mind, reducing the vehicle’s appeal. “We will continue to explore other ways to give members more choice and ways to discover the content they want to watch,” a Netflix spokesperson said in a statement.
The feature rolled out in 2021 to promote new titles as well as help the most indecisive subscribers choose something to watch. As soon as the user clicked on the “Amaze me” option, the stream was playing titles that were popular on the platform or based on the person’s viewing history.
Other changes
Netflix seems focused on improving the user experience. In January of this year, the streaming app for iOS (iPhone) was updated and got a new more responsive design with new animations.
On the other hand, the company was heavily criticized in early February after it announced how new streaming measures would work to control password sharing. According to Netflix, the aim is to increase the number of subscriptions on the platform in the long run, although there are some cancellations at first.
