In degenerative disc disease (DDDD), intervertebral discs begin to deteriorate, worsening over time, causing varying degrees of pain and mobility problems. The new treatment involves injecting specialized cells into a damaged intervertebral disc to stimulate the existing cells to grow into healthy tissue.
“This treatment can help patients return to normal activity levels for longer.”– said one of the authors of the new study. “We need better treatments for this disease as conservative treatment does not provide the long-term results patients deserve. Treatment with injectable allografts may be a solution for many people.”.
