The whistleblower told the Washington Post that the company’s plan to protect American users’ data from Chinese employees would require at least a “wholesale overhaul” of how the app works.

The source said he worked at the company for about six months as a unit leader on TikTok’s security team until early 2022. He said part of that job is knowing which employees have access to certain tools and user data.

He claims he was fired after raising concerns about data privacy.
