Microsoft launched the public preview of its new Teams app for Windows this Monday (27), with new artificial intelligence (AI) and 3D avatar features to make the virtual meeting experience more immersive. For now, only business customers can check what’s new on the platform.

The new version of Microsoft Teams requires fewer clicks to check notifications, search for information, manage messages and edit channels. The architecture of the platform has been reformulated to make it twice as fast and consume half the memory of the previous version.

3D avatars

New 3D avatars allow users to customize their virtual appearance to more closely resemble their real identities. Representations move according to sound, eliminating the need for cameras to express emotions and facial expressions, making interactions more dynamic and natural.

Microsoft has partnered with Meta to develop a virtual reality (VR) headset to allow the use of graphical representations. The company, founded by Bill Gates, also bought the AltspaceVR social network and included the avatars in Microsoft Mesh, a holographic collaboration platform.

Artificial intelligence

AI is already on the scene to improve the quality of meetings. The technology can suppress noise, blur the background of the image, and adjust lighting to improve participant visibility. The algorithm also automatically decodes what was said during the meeting and generates subtitles in real time.

The tech will have tools like smart summary and co-pilot. This means that the platform can provide information before meetings and automatically answer questions in the discussion stream.
