VK plans to install its own CDN (content delivery network) service on networks to speed up video downloads for users. The service will allow content to be downloaded not from a central server, which can be located thousands of kilometers away, but from the nearest CDN point of presence.
The company is now negotiating with the operators to install caching servers. In addition, VK attracts popular YouTube bloggers to its services by concluding contracts with them, Forbes writes, citing sources.
Experts believe that its own CDN will allow the company to prepare for increased traffic in the event that YouTube is shut down. VK representatives noted that the construction of such a network is associated with the growing popularity of services, for example, VKontakte traffic in 2022 more than doubled.
