The Bank of Russia recorded a record loss of 721 billion rubles in 2022. It turned out to be almost 30 times more than in 2021, and almost twice as much as in 2017, when the regulator spent significant amounts on the reorganization of large banks.
The Central Bank of the Russian Federation published an annual report on its financial activities.
According to the document, the loss of the Bank of Russia in 2022 reached 721.7 billion rubles, which is 27 times more than in 2021; then the loss amounted to 26.3 billion rubles. The Bank of Russia remains a loss-making company for the sixth year in a row.
The amount of the loss of the Bank of Russia at the end of 2022 was a record. Previously, the regulator recorded a maximum loss of 435.3 billion rubles in 2017, when it spent significant amounts on the rehabilitation (financial recovery) of several large banks.
One of the factors that led to the current financial performance, the Bank of Russia called the loss of unrealized revaluation of debt obligations of foreign issuers, which is estimated at 315 billion rubles.
